Can You Install Safetyflex With a Solar Control Film Like Dualflex or Chromoflex?
Can You Install Safetyflex With a Solar Control Film Like Dualflex or Chromoflex?
This isn't a formal Flexfilm recommendation — there's no official spec or warranty coverage for combining these two films on the same pane. What follows is practical guidance based on installer experience, not a certified installation method. See our general guide on layering multiple window films for the broader caution that applies here too.
Which Order Makes Sense
If you're combining Safetyflex with a solar control film like Dualflex or Chromoflex, install the security film to the glass first, then the solar control film on top of it.
Why This Order
Security film adhesive bonds better directly to glass than it does to a hard coat — the clear protective top layer on a solar control film. Putting Safetyflex down first means its adhesive is bonding to what it's actually designed to bond to. A solar control film installed on top of the security film, by contrast, doesn't run into that same adhesion concern.
What This Doesn't Guarantee
This combination hasn't been formally tested or warrantied by Flexfilm. Set expectations with the customer accordingly — this is an unconventional installation outside normal warranty-backed procedures, not a certified system.
Key Takeaways
- If combining the two, install Safetyflex to the glass first, then the solar control film on top.
- Security film adhesive bonds better to glass than to a solar control film's hard coat.
- This is informal installer guidance, not a formal Flexfilm recommendation or warrantied combination.
