Preparation Solution and Glass Cleaner
Pre-Tac is a specialized preparatory solution for priming glass surfaces prior to window film installation, proficiently reducing surface oils and contaminants, creating an immaculate foundation for window film installation, and additionally serving as a streak-free glass cleaner.
- All-in-one prep solution and glass cleaner
- Degreases and removes surface contaminants
- Degreases and removes surface contaminants
- Safe for all types of window film
Directions
Pre-Tac is concentrated in a 3:1 ratio. Mix one quart of concentrated Pre-Tac with three quarts of water to make one gallon of solution. Mix one gallon of concentrated Pre-Tac with three gallons of water to make four gallons of solution. Mix 8 ounces of concentrated Pre-Tac in 24 ounces of water to make one quart of solution. Pre-Tac is sufficient for removing oils and contaminants from glass surfaces when used with a nylon scrub pad. This will help break the surface tension of these individual oils before scraping.
Instructions
Mix Pre-Tac at a 3:1 ratio by combining 1 quart of concentrate with 3 quarts of water to make a gallon of solution. If you have a gallon of Pre-Tac concentrate, add 3 gallons of water for a total of 4 gallons. For smaller batches, combine 8 ounces of concentrate with 24 ounces of water to make a quart of ready-to-use cleaner. Pre-Tac is effective for removing oils and contaminants when used with a nylon scrub pad, helping to break surface tension and loosen debris before scraping.
Slip Solution Mixture Guide
Want your Flexfilm to lay flat, hug the dot‑matrix, and stay put around painted edges? It all comes down to the mix in your sprayer. Here’s the no‑fluff guide to getting perfect Flexfilm installs!
Works for Automotive and Architectural Window Films
These ratios are dialed in for pressure‑sensitive automotive window tint, and they perform just as smoothly on pressure‑sensitive architectural window film.
Using dry‑adhesive architectural film? Start with roughly 25–50 % of the mix I state below.
What You Need
- Distilled or reverse‑osmosis water – minerals in tap water can hurt adhesion and even clarity.
- SlipX (dish soap-based) or Tint‑Tac (shampoo-based).
- A clean 32 oz spray bottle and the product’s own cap for measuring.
Why Most Pros Pick Dish Soap
Years of installer feedback show dish‑soap formulas pair best with urethane adhesives. They give enough slip to position the film without leaving so much residue that panels curl later. Shampoo works too—you just use twice as much product.
Mixing Ratios (32 oz Bottle)
Product | Amount | Tip‑Off Color |
---|---|---|
SlipX | 1 capful | Water stays almost clear / faint yellow |
Tint‑Tac | 2 capfuls | Light sky‑blue hue |
Official Directions (per gallon)
- SlipX: Add 0.4 oz of SlipX to 1 gallon of water. Mix well.
- Tint‑Tac: Add 1 oz of Tint‑Tac to 1 gallon of water. Mix well.
Hot & humid shop? Add a splash more.
Cooler temps? Use a hair less so tack stays snappy.
Quick Step‑By‑Step
- Fill the bottle halfway with distilled water.
- Measure SlipX or Tint‑Tac with the cap (see table).
- Pour and swirl gently—avoid whipping foam.
- Top off to 32 oz, tighten the lid, and give one slow roll to mix.
- Test on scrap glass. Too slippery? Back off a few drops. Grabbing too quick? Add a touch more.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Likely Cause | Quick Fix |
---|---|---|
Film curls at edges or on dot‑matrix | Over‑soaping (common if you eyeballed it) | Dump ¼ of the mix, refill with distilled, retest |
Film won’t budge on glass | Too little soap or cold shop | Add a teaspoon of SlipX or Tint‑Tac |
Dry‑spot streaks | Used tap water | Switch to distilled or RO water |
Wrap‑Up
Stick with distilled water, use 1 cap SlipX or 2 caps Tint‑Tac per 32 oz bottle, and tweak only for extreme weather. Once you nail your local ratio, write it on the bottle so every refill is identical. Smooth installs, happy customers – done.

Which is best for you?
Product comparison
Pick the slip solution that matches your style! SlipX, a dish soap-based option, is more concentrated and goes a long way, while Tint-Tac, a shampoo-based solution, is less concentrated. Some installers find that dish soap-based solutions like SlipX offer a quicker tack with the film. We recommend giving both a shot to see which one suits your style and installation technique best. You won’t know until you try!

How to Mix Slip Solution for Perfect Flexfilm Installs
Want your Flexfilm to lay flat, hug the dot‑matrix, and stay put around painted edges? It all comes down to the mix in your sprayer. Here’s the no‑fluff guide to getting perfect Flexfilm installs!...
Installation Solutions
Before you jump into any window film project—whether it’s on a car or a building—it’s important to understand how slip and prep solutions can make your job easier.
Prep solutions help remove grime and residue so the glass is spotless, while slip solutions lower friction and give you enough time to position the film just right. Having both on hand ensures a smoother installation and helps the adhesive bond as it should.
Here are answers to common questions about how these products work!
What’s the difference between a slip solution and a prep solution?
A slip solution (like Tint-Tac) is used when you’re ready to position and secure the film on the glass. Its surfactants and balanced pH let you slide the film into place without affecting the adhesive. A prep solution (like Pre-Tac) is for cleaning and prepping the surface beforehand. It helps remove dirt, oils, and any residue that might affect adhesion.
Why is a slip solution important?
A slip solution is essential for window film installation because it lets the film slide easily on the glass, allowing for precise positioning without premature sticking.
- Ease of application: Lubricates the surface to prevent bubbles, creases, and wrinkles.
- Prevents damage: Stops the adhesive from grabbing too early, avoiding tears or stretching.
- Reduces friction: Makes it easier to squeegee out air bubbles and water for a cleaner finish.
- Controls adhesion: Gives you time to adjust the film before it fully sticks.
- Simplifies large installs: Helps manage bigger films for smoother alignment.
Why is a slip solution preferred over baby shampoo or dish soap?
A dedicated slip solution is preferred over baby shampoo or dish soap because it offers better consistency, performance, and control. Unlike soaps, our slip solutions are specifically formulated to provide the right amount of lubrication without affecting the adhesive. They leave less residue, reduce the risk of bubbles or creases, and are gentler on both the film and glass. Additionally, our slip solutions inhibit algae and bacteria growth, virtually eliminating bottle maintenance—something that soaps can't do. Overall, they ensure a smoother, more reliable installation with less hassle.
Is a slip solution safe to use?
Yes, our slip solutions are safe for window film, paint protection film (PPF), and vinyl. They provide the right lubrication for easy adjustment and strong adhesion without damaging the materials.
Can I use a slip solution on architectural flat glass films?
Yes, we recommend using one of our slip solutions when installing flat glass films. It helps the film slide easily across the glass, allowing for proper positioning without premature sticking. Our slip solutions also reduces the risk of bubbles, creases, and other issues, ensuring a smooth, professional-looking installation. It’s essential for making the process easier and achieving a high-quality result.
Will using too much slip solution affect the adhesive bond?
Over-saturating can delay the curing process, but won’t necessarily ruin the adhesive. The main thing is to remove as much fluid and air as possible while squeegeeing so the film can bond to the glass without interference.
Do I need to rinse off Pre-Tac before applying Tint-Tac?
Yes. After using Pre-Tac to clean and scrub the glass, rinse with clean water or wipe it thoroughly to remove any remaining residue. This ensures you’re starting with a perfectly clean surface before you apply Tint-Tac.
What if I see bubbles or streaks after installation?
Minor bubbles often clear up as the film dries and the adhesive cures. Streaks or spots can be a sign of leftover residue or dust under the film. Proper cleaning with a prep solution like Pre-Tac and thorough squeegeeing after applying Tint-Tac can help prevent this.
