Can Architectural Window Film Be Applied to Vinyl or Plexiglass?
Can Architectural Window Film Be Applied to Vinyl or Plexiglass?
No. Flexfilm doesn't recommend installing flat glass film on transparent vinyl or polycarbonate (plexiglass) surfaces, and these installations aren't covered under warranty.
Transparent Vinyl
Flat glass films are formulated for rigid glass and often don't bond well to flexible vinyl, leading to bubbling, delamination, or reduced clarity. A laminate film built specifically for vinyl will give better results.
Plexiglass (Polycarbonate)
Polycarbonate expands and contracts more than glass with temperature changes, which can cause film to warp or delaminate. Its chemical makeup can also react poorly with film adhesive, causing adhesion problems and visual distortion.
