Shades How much visible light passes through. Lower VLT is darker; on reflective films it also looks more mirror-like, while on ceramic films it simply darkens without added shine.

Glass safety matters
Not every window film works on every type of glass.
Choose the wrong film, and you can trap heat and stress the glass. That’s where problems happen.
The good news — it’s easy to avoid.
Use our film-to-glass compatibility calculator or talk to a professional to make sure you’re choosing the right film for your setup.
We’re here to help you get it right the first time.
Check compatibilityReflectivity Explained
Think of it like this: black vs white on a hot day.
Black absorbs heat. White reflects it.
Window film works the same way.
Ceramic films like Panashield and Nanoshield absorb heat to deliver performance while keeping a natural look. Reflective films like Dualflex, Chromoflex, and Sputterflex bounce heat away, helping keep interiors cooler and reducing stress on the glass.
It’s not just about looks. The right film balances performance, safety, and appearance. Choose wrong, and you risk overheating the glass. Choose right, and you get better comfort, lower energy costs, and long-term protection.
Too long; didn't read:
- Ceramic = low reflectivity, natural look, absorbs heat
- Reflective = mirror look, reflects heat, adds daytime privacy

We’ve got answers! Our FAQ section covers everything you need to know.
Is window film hard to install?
It takes patience, but many people install it themselves successfully. Using the right tools and taking your time makes a big difference.
What tools do I need?
At minimum you'll need a spray bottle, slip solution, squeegee, and sharp blade. Our DIY Window Film Application Kit include everything most people need to get started.
What is the difference between pressure sensitive and dry adhesive?
Dry adhesive (CDF) starts non-sticky and activates with a slip solution, then gradually forms a chemical bond with the glass. This makes it easier to handle, adjust, and rework during installation—especially on large, flat glass—while also being more resistant to contamination early on. Pressure-sensitive (PS) adhesive, on the other hand, is immediately tacky and bonds on contact, making it ideal for faster installs and curved or complex surfaces. In short, dry adhesive gives you more working time and precision, while PS adhesive delivers instant hold and speed—each suited to different applications and installer preferences.
Will I need a slip solution?
Yes, you absolutely need a slip solution for a smooth, successful installation. It allows you to position the film, remove bubbles, and get a clean finish. We recommend using our Tint-Tac slip solution, or grabbing our DIY Window Film Application Kit, which includes everything you need to get the job done right.
Does window film go on the inside or outside of the glass?
Most architectural window film installs on the inside of the glass.
Will window film make my room darker?
Some films will reduce light slightly. Privacy and reflective films usually darken the glass more than ceramic or frosted films.
Does window film really reduce heat?
Yes. Window film helps reduce solar heat and glare, which can make rooms more comfortable and easier to cool.
Does reflective film work at night?
Reflective films provide privacy during the day. At night, when lights are on inside, people may still see in.
Can I remove the film later?
Yes. Window film can be removed if needed, although it may take some time and effort depending on how long it has been installed.
Can window film damage my glass?
Every window is different. Some glass types are more sensitive to heat. If you're unsure what type of glass you have, we recommend consulting a professional installer before installation.
Do darker shades get more reflective?
Not necessarily. Reflectivity depends on the film design. Some darker films are very reflective, while others maintain a more natural look.
Will daytime privacy work at night?
Mirror‑type privacy relies on exterior light. At night, interior lights reverse the effect. Use blinds or dim lights to maintain privacy.
What is one-way daytime privacy?
Reflective films can create daytime privacy because the brighter side of the glass becomes reflective. During the day it’s brighter outside, so people outside see the reflection instead of inside. At night, when lights are on inside, the effect reverses.
