World's Best Tint Hack

Ralph from Flexfilm here, owning up to my roots: I’m a tint hack at heart. To prove it, I ditched every pro tool in the shop and set out to tint a side window with nothing but household junk — then challenged the best installers on the planet to beat me.

The Brutal Rules

No aprons, no peel boards, zero “proper” tint tools. Your entire kit:

All cutting, shrinking, and squeegeeing must happen on the car. No shop glass, no peel boards, no backlight benches.

Seven Steps to Full-Hack Glory

1. Benchless prep · Roll film straight off the box, eyeball length, trim freehand.
2. Anchor with plastic · Use the license as both squeegee and straightedge; wrap in a paper towel for “lint removal.”
3. Crease-to-cut edge · Fold film against the glass to mark a micro-gap, then trace the fold with the blade.
4. Seat-of-the-pants shrinking · No peel board; massage minor fingers outward with the license corners.
5. Hair-dryer heat set · Hover on HOT/HIGH to tack edges without frying seals.
6. Razor shave · Drag raw blade lightly along top gasket to perfect the gap — breathe slow, scratch never.
7. Victory wipe · Final pass with your last paper-towel square; admire the handiwork.
